DTE全名為Data terminal equipment，是指一般的計算機，主要是給使用者端用的
DCE全名為Data circuit-terminating equipment，則是用來處理通訊的設備，主要是在中間處理訊號
DTE依賴DCE的Clock進行工作，比如電腦與數據機或是路由器
